Artistic Mounting:

Artistic mounting is a process in which a piece of artwork (Photograph, Poster, Reproduction, Document) is pressed onto Medium Density Fiberboard or MDF. The artwork is sealed between a layer of UV protected vinyl laminate on top and an adhesive underneath. It is then pressed on to the MDF. Once pressed the piece is sent through an edger that bevels the edge and then applies a colored foil to the edge. The foil is available in many colors. The piece is now ready to hang.

There are several advantages to artistic mounting. One of the greatest advantages is that artistic mounting is significantly less expensive than custom framing. It can be as much as half the cost.

  1. Box Mount – A frame is built and attached to the back of the plaque mount and edged as one piece giving the illusion of a 1” plaque.

  2. Float Mount – A 3/8” – 5/8” frame is attached to the back of a plaque mount, but is set in 3”. Once on the wall it looks as if it is floating.

  3. Regular Plaque – The image is pressed on to the 3/8’” piece of MDF.
  4. Dimensional Plaque – Various shapes are cut out of a plaque mount and attached to the surface so that there are many different levels and “dimension” to the plaque mount.
  5. Plaque on Plaque – A plaque mount is attached to the front of another solid colored plaque so that it looks that there is a border.

  6. Framed Plaque – An image is pressed to 1/4” MDF and then it is framed like a custom picture.
  7. Double Float Mount – A plaque on plaque that is both floated off the wall and the image is floated off of the black background.

  8. Picture on Picture – A plaque on plaque that uses two images; a larger print for the background, and a smaller print attached to the background print.

  9. Bridge Mount – A bridge mount consists of multiple plaques mounted at different depths to form an interlocking piece of art.
